Urs W. Birchler assumes position of SUERF President

Urs W. Birchler assumed office as the President of SUERF – The European Money & Finance Forum on 1 May 2012. He succeeds Catherine Lubochinsky, who served two consecutive three year terms with distinction as the Association's President since May 2006, and she remains a committed member of SUERF's Council of Management. During her time as President, SUERF held Colloquia, Conferences, Workshops and Lectures in 16 different European countries. Urs W. Birchler is Professor of Banking in the Department of Banking of Finance at Zurich University. He is Chairman of the Colloquium Working Group for the 30th SUERF Colloquium to be held in Zürich on 5-6 September 2012 on "States, Banks and the Financing of the Economy", and has been a member of the SUERF Council of Management since 2011. The new President will be supported by the other members of the SUERF Presidency, Messrs Frank Lierman (SUERF Vice President, Chief Economist Belfius Bank), Ernest Gnan (SUERF Secretary General, Head of the Economic Analysis Division, Oesterreichische Nationalbank) and Donato Masciandaro (SUERF Honorary Treasurer and Director Paolo Baffi Centre on Central Banking and Financial Regulation, Bocconi University), the members of the SUERF Council of Management and the SUERF Secretariat.

SUERF – The European Money and Finance Forum was established on 25 November 1963 in Louveciennes, France by a group of academics and bankers from France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Belgium. SUERF will celebrate its golden jubilee in 2013 with a series of events and publications, while three further events will also be held in 2012.

SUERF is a membership-based network association of bankers, central bankers, other financial sector practitioners and academics. The Association focusses on the analysis, discussion and understanding of financial markets and institutions, the monetary economy, the conduct of regulation and monetary policy, and related issues. SUERF events provide a unique European network for the analysis and discussion of these and related issues. SUERF has evolved as a forum for the exchange of information, research results and ideas.
