Objective of the traineeship
The goal of the traineeship is twofold:
- Contribute to Analytical Work: You will assist (senior) economists by focusing on large-scale granular datasets. You will translate this wealth of information into policy and research insights, improve existing analytical models, and develop new ones, leveraging econometric, statistical, and machine learning techniques. This work will involve systematically verifying whether potential projects could have negative consequences for the environment, gender equality, and other aspects of social well-being, as well as estimating the positive economic, social, and environmental results that each project is likely to achieve.
- Gain Valuable Experience: You will benefit from the opportunity to work in an international financial institution, gaining valuable work experience, insights into economic, financial, and policy analysis, establishing professional contacts, and gaining knowledge of the functioning of the EIB. This experience will also include exposure to macroeconomic modelling to understand and predict the broader economic impacts of the EIB’s activities, helping to forecast economic trends and assess the potential long-term effects of various projects and policies.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of a (senior) economist of the Economics Department, you will carry out work related to various impact assessment projects, both inside and outside the EU.
- Assist with the collection, cleaning, and pre-processing of large datasets, including structured data, web data, text, and geospatial data.
- Prepare basic descriptive statistics, charts, tables, visualizations, and short reports based on data analysis.
- Collaborate with (senior) economists in developing machine learning, econometric, and statistical models for data analysis.
- Assist (senior) economists in exploring and interpreting the results from the machine learning, econometric, and statistical models.
- Contribute to the systematic verification of potential projects to ensure they do not have negative consequences for the environment, gender equality, and other aspects of social well-being.
- Estimate the positive economic, social, and environmental results that each project is likely to achieve and evaluate projects ex-post.
- Engage in macroeconomic modelling to understand and predict the broader economic impacts of the EIB’s activities, helping to forecast economic trends and assess the potential long-term effects of various projects and policies.
