AEB Foundation Federico Prades Award for Young Economists – IV Edition

This award is in recognition of the contribution madeby Federico Prades, from the AEB’s research department, to economic and banking analysis. The prize is worth 20,000 euros.

The Federico Prades Award for Young Economists, promoted by the Spanish Banking Association (AEB) and the AEB Foundation, was created to commemorate the figure of Federico Prades for his contributions to economic analysis. During his more than twenty years as economic advisor to the AEB, Federico Prades contributed to understanding our economy and the environment towards which it was evolving; to proposing economic policies to improve economic and social development; and to anticipating the framework within which financial institutions in our country should develop their business models. The aim of this award is to encourage, stimulate, recognize and reward the research work of young economists on the role of financial institutions in contemporary society.

The deadline for receipt of papers is September 6, 2024.

Bases of the Federico Prades Award for Young Economists

1. Frequency
The Federico Prades Award is awarded every two years.

2. Nominations
The Award will be granted to researchers who are under the age of 40 as of December 31, 2023. If the submitted work is a collaborative effort, the lead investigator must satisfy the age criterion.

3. Subject matter of the call for proposals
The topics of the research or study must deal with subjects that contribute to a better understanding of the contribution of financial institutions to the improvement of the economy and living conditions.

In this call priority will be given to works related to:
– Inclusion
– Demographics
– Green and digital transition
– Economic and social stability and progress.

4. Presentation of the work carried out
The studies submitted must meet the following requirements:
– They must not have been published, even if they have been accepted for publication, by December 31, 2023.
– The papers must be written in Spanish or English.
– The study, properly speaking, will have a maximum length of 20,000 words. This extension does not include indexes, statistical appendices, information tables and bibliography that may accompany the paper as annexes.
– The papers will include an Executive Summary of no more than 1,500 words, briefly describing the subject of the study, the methodology and the main conclusions reached.
– The works eligible for the Award may have been developed from the knowledge generated both in the Academic and University environment and in the Business, Corporate or Institutional world.

5.Relevant merits
The jury of the Federico Prades Award for Young Economists will assess the quality of the work, the topicality of the subject studied and the originality of the analysis, both in terms of the proposed topic and in the way it is addressed.

6.Place and deadline
The paper should be sent by email to the following address: premiofedericoprades@fundacionaeb.es.

Along with the original work, the name(s) of the author(s), address, telephone number, e-mail address, ID number, as well as a brief curriculum vitae of the author(s) of the study should be attached.

In this call for papers, the deadline for receipt of papers will open on February 29, 2024 and will end on September 6, 2024.

7.Endowment of the Prize
The Federico Prades Prize for Young Economists will have an endowment of 20,000 euros. Another prize of 5,000 euros may be awarded to another work that, in the opinion of the jury, deserves a distinction. The prize may be awarded ex aequo to two or more works submitted. The Jury may declare the Prize “deserted”.

8. Jury
The jury will be made up of renowned experts from the economic, business and academic fields, appointed by the AEB Foundation. Of these, one will act as chairman and another as secretary of the jury.
The composition of the jury will be made public after the decision of the Award is known through the website of the Spanish Banking Association.
Each member of the jury shall have a voice and a vote. The decision shall be taken by a simple majority vote of its members.

9.Award decision
The decision of the Federico Prades Award for Young Economists will be made public in November 2024.

10.Awarding of the Prize
The Award will be presented to the winner(s) at a ceremony organized by the AEB and the AEB Foundation. As a sine qua non condition, the winners must be present at the award ceremony and must submit a draft article for the media, which the AEB Foundation will evaluate for dissemination.

11.Publication of the awarded works and diffusion

The AEB Foundation will use all the means at its disposal to ensure that the award-winning work achieves the widest possible dissemination. Thus, it will offer the winner the possibility of publishing a version of the winning work and will promote its presentation in the academic sphere through events organized by CUNEF Universidad or by banks associated with the AEB, as well as its dissemination, if deemed appropriate, in the media. The AEB Foundation reserves the right to use the names, image and brand of the awarded project (including the electronic format) in the dissemination of the Award, as well as in its own communication channels (web, reports, conferences, etc.).

The winning works may also be published elsewhere, provided the AEB Foundation is previously informed and that it is mentioned in the acknowledgements section of the article that the work has been awarded the Federico Prades Prize for Young Economists.

12.Acceptance of the rules
Submission to this Award implies acceptance of and strict compliance w    ith the rules and regulations. The jury’s decision is final.
