Fabio Panetta is Member of the Governing Board and Deputy Governor of the Bank of Italy. Within the Governing Board he is responsible for central banking operations, risk management, banking and financial super-vision, and financial stability. Member of the Board of the Insurance Supervisory Authority (IVASS). He is alternate to the Governor in the Governing Council of the ECB and member of the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements; Member of the Committee on the Global Financial System. From 2014, mem-ber of the SSM Supervisory Board at the ECB.
After graduating with honours in Economics from LUISS University (Rome) in 1982, he obtained an M.Sc. in Eco-nomics from the London School of Economics and a Ph.D in Economics and Finance from the London Business School. He is the author of books and papers published in international journals such as the American Economic Review, The Journal of Finance, The Journal of Money Credit and Banking, The European Economic Review, The Journal of Banking and Finance.
